McKinney has a heart for Boys & Girls Club

The bitter cold and icy conditions of Feb. 10 didn’t stop the biggest crowd ever from attending the fifth annual Have a Heart dinner for the Boys and Girls Club of Lake County-Zion-Benton Unit at Illinois Beach Resort. Perhaps it was, in part, because people realize the importance of the club, but more likely, it had a lot to do with the keynote speaker, Zion basketball icon, Billy McKinney, currently the scouting director for the Milwaukee Bucks.

Over a 30 year period, McKinney has established himself as one of the most experienced and versatile executives in the NBA. McKinney has served as a player, scout, assistant coach, administrator and consultant, as well as an on-air analyst for several teams’ television and radio broadcasts. ... More

 

Beach Park licenses
pawn shop

he first order of business for the Beach Park Village Board Feb. 9 was to consider an ordinance creating a license for a pawn shop within village limits. The annual license fee is $1,000. The 13-page ordinance adds its own requirements to those required by the state. All owners must pass a criminal background check to qualify for a license.

The shop will be required to have surveillance recording inside at all times, and must obtain two forms of identification for all sellers. The shop is required to have a security system that is monitored 24 hours a day.

“This ordinance is more restrictive that a regular business license, which is what would be used if nothing else was in place,” Mayor pro tem John Hucker said. “It addresses a gap that exists in our regular ordinances..…More
